About Sra. M.¡Hola! I am Señora McFarland, welcome to IB Spanish class! Here’s a little bit about me. I love to travel and meet people from different cultures. This past summer, I took 13 students from Spruce Creek to the Dominican Republic for a service learning trip. We worked with a girls’ foundation called The Mariposa Foundation. Not only did my students develop cultural awareness and a passion for helping others, we were able to help the foundation by doing hands-on activities with the girls and provide assistance for on-site construction. I am very passionate about service work and hope to spread that passion into the classroom.
I earned my degree in World Language Education and certificate in Service Learning from the University of Central Florida. While pursing my degree, I traveled through Central America and took many classes at Universidad Veritas in San José, Costa Rica. I later became passionate about professional development for teachers and began presenting at and attending World Language Educators' Conferences around the United States. Now, as a teacher, I am still actively involved in ACTFL (the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages), SCOLT (the Southern Conference on Language Teaching), FFLA (the Florida Foreign Language Association), and VCFLA (Volusia County Foreign Language Association). At Spruce Creek, I teach tap dance for Papillon, Creek's dance team. Outside of school, I teach tap and jazz at a dance studio in South Daytona. I have a chihuahua named Nani and a black cat named Lilo, neither of them understand commands in Spanish yet, but I still have hope. I'm currently beginning my third year as a Hawk and looking forward to an enthusiastic year with lots of Spanish songs, grammar, dancing, and culture. |
